Fernmeldeturm Rostock, Telecommunications tower in Stadtweide district, Rostock, Germany.
Fernmeldeturm Rostock is a 140-meter concrete structure located in the Stadtweide district that now serves exclusively for mobile telecommunications. The tower features a central shaft designed to support and distribute transmission signals across the region.
Construction took place between 1968 and 1969, making it one of the first concrete radio towers in East Germany. The structure was repurposed after 1990 and transitioned from broadcasting services to mobile telecommunications exclusively after 2014.
The observation deck that operated from 1973 to the late 1980s represented a rare public access point to this type of structure during the East German period. Visitors could look out toward the Danish coast on clear days, making it a distinctive attraction for the region at that time.
The structure is visible from various points around the Stadtweide area and currently operates for mobile network coverage only. The interior is not accessible to visitors, as it functions as active telecommunications infrastructure.
A smaller companion tower stands nearby and also dates to the East German period, sharing similar transmission functions. Together, the two structures have shaped the radio infrastructure landscape of the Stadtweide district.
