Herxheim

Herxheim is a municipality in the Südliche Weinstraße district located southeast of Landau in southwestern Germany. The village spreads across gentle terrain with vineyards and farmland surrounding a modest town center where traditional buildings and local shops create an everyday rural setting.

The settlement first appears in a 773 monastery document as Harieschaim, showing early medieval origins in the region. Over centuries it grew from an agricultural village into a wine-producing area as viticulture expanded through the Palatinate.

The annual Laurentiusbrotweihe festival after August 10 recalls when neighboring communities brought food during a plague quarantine in 1666. This celebration shows how locals continue to honor that moment of shared help and survival.
