Ladbergen is a municipality in the Steinfurt district situated along the Dortmund-Ems Canal between Münster and Osnabrück in northern North Rhine-Westphalia. The area consists of several villages and farmland that spread across relatively flat countryside near this major waterway.
The area was first recorded in 950 through documents from Freckenhorst monastery. It developed from a small settlement into an independent parish by 1149.
