Landesmuseum Hannover, State museum in Südstadt-Bult, Germany
The Landesmuseum Hannover is a major art museum in Südstadt-Bult with five departments covering art collections, natural history, archaeology, ethnology, and temporary exhibitions. The different sections span multiple floors and display works and objects from many cultures and time periods.
The museum was founded in 1856 and later moved to the Neo-Renaissance building visible today. The new building was completed in 1902 and sits near Maschpark.
The collections showcase works from different periods, including German and Italian Renaissance pieces and Dutch paintings from the 1600s. Visitors can also find prints by German Impressionist artists like Liebermann, which reflect the artistic achievements of their time.
The museum is open most days of the week, with regular hours from Tuesday through Sunday. Staff and guides are available to help visitors navigate the collections, and information is provided in multiple languages.
The natural history section houses an iguanodon model that shows how scientific understanding of dinosaurs has changed over time. The model demonstrates how researchers have adjusted their reconstructions as new knowledge has emerged.
