Landschaftsgarten, Rock labyrinth and geological formation in Wunsiedel, Germany
The Landschaftsgarten is a park featuring massive granite blocks scattered across the terrain, forming narrow passages between them. The stones were shaped through natural weathering processes and create pathways that wind through the rocky landscape.
The site was once a feared place that people avoided, but in the 18th century it was transformed into a designed garden. This conversion made it an early tourist destination for nature enthusiasts.
The name honors Princess Luise, for whom the site was redesigned in the 18th century. Today, visitors walk among the stone formations, and artists use the location each summer for theatrical performances within the rock passages.
The paths between the stones are tight in places and require sturdy footwear for safe footing. Plan to move slowly, as surfaces are uneven and can be slippery, especially when wet.
The granite blocks did not form through erosion or volcanic action, but rather through a rare weathering pattern that split the stones into rounded shapes. This phenomenon developed during a tropical period millions of years ago and remains visibly distinctive today.
