Neubiberg, Residential municipality in southeast Munich, Germany
Neubiberg is a residential municipality southeast of Munich with single-family homes and gardens in a suburban setting. The Bundeswehr University Munich occupies a large portion of the area, shaping much of the local landscape.
The municipality was founded in 1912 and served as a Luftwaffe base during World War II. After the war, the United States took control of the site until it eventually became home to a German military university.
The municipality maintains international connections through partnerships with Ablon-sur-Seine in France and Chernogolovka in Russia, fostering cultural exchanges.
The area is easily accessible by public transport from Munich and works well for a day trip. Visitors should note that large portions of the site belong to the university and are not freely accessible.
The Unterbiberg district houses the headquarters of both Infineon Technologies and Intel Deutschland, making it a significant technology hub. This presence of major semiconductor manufacturers defines the area's economic identity more prominently than many visitors expect.
