The building sits on a slight slope at Porscheplatz in Zuffenhausen, with two underground levels used as a car park beneath the base. Behind the glass front on the ground floor are the ticket desk, café and shop, plus the museum workshop and company archive. Two escalators of different lengths link this foyer to the exhibition level above.
The exhibition vehicles are not static: many remain roadworthy, and some are driven at events such as the Arosa ClassicCar mountain race. The museum calls this a "rolling museum", drawing on a pool of about 450 noteworthy cars.
