Alte Burg, Medieval castle ruin in Nörvenich, Germany
The remnants of Alte Burg stand on a steep bank of Neffelbach stream, featuring a horseshoe-shaped outer bailey spanning 100 meters in length.
The castle belonged to Hermann IV von Saffenberg in the 13th century and served as an administrative center for Nörvenich officials until 1394.
The castle ruins maintain archaeological value as a Bodendenkmal, representing North Rhine-Westphalia's medieval architectural and administrative heritage.
The castle foundations, discovered during excavations in 1925, remain under North Rhine-Westphalia state ownership and protection as monument number 4.
The castle complex incorporates a Großmotte design with a main stone structure separated by a moat measuring 30 meters wide and 10 meters deep.
