Harff’sche Burg

Harff'sche Burg is a fortress made of brick with a rectangular layout and a round tower at its eastern corner. The structure sits on private land between Neffelbach and the cemetery and can be viewed from outside.

The fortress was built in 1565 by Johann von Harff zu Geilenkirchen and remained in family hands until the 19th century. It then passed to Count Wolff von Metternich's ownership.

The fortress shows building methods typical of fortifications that were constructed in this region during medieval times. Visitors can observe how such structures were designed to protect land and family interests.

Access to the grounds is not permitted as the fortress sits on private property. Visitors can photograph and view the ruin from outside the property boundaries.

This fortress received substantial support for conservation efforts, showing how important such medieval structures are to the region. Despite its deteriorated state, the structure remains a window into the military building methods of earlier times.
