The Basilica of St. Severin features a 72.9-meter tower, rounded arches, and decorative arcading within its robust Romanesque architectural structure.
The church originated in the late 4th century as a memorial chapel built over a Roman cemetery, with the oldest parts of the current building dating to the 10th century.
The church holds the relics of Saint Severin of Cologne in a shrine commissioned by Archbishop Herimann III at the end of the 11th century.
The church opens Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 18:00, Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00, and Sunday from 14:00 to 17:30.
The excavated Roman cemetery beneath the church remains accessible to visitors, revealing the burial grounds from the 1st century.
