Jaromarsburg, Slavic temple and castle at Cape Arkona, Germany

Built on a cliff top with double ramparts reaching 13 meters in height, Jaromarsburg extended 300 meters north-south and 350 meters east-west.

From the 9th to 12th centuries, the Rani tribe controlled this fortified site until Danish forces captured it after a four-week siege in 1168.

The temple contained a four-meter oak statue of Svetovid, where priests performed annual harvest predictions using a mead-filled ceremonial drinking horn.

The archaeological site requires approximately one hour to explore and connects to walking paths leading to Cape Arkona Lighthouse and Schinkelturm.

Coastal erosion has reduced the original fortress area by two-thirds, with continuous cliff collapses causing a loss of 10 to 20 meters per century.
