Andechs Abbey

Andechs Abbey is a hilltop church in Bavaria featuring distinctive onion domes and a blend of Gothic and Baroque architectural styles. Its interior contains multiple altars, ornate furnishings, and religious artworks spanning different periods.

The foundation dates to the 10th century when religious relics were brought here from Rome and the Holy Land. The building underwent multiple renovations and expansions over the centuries, layering architectural styles from different periods.

The abbey sits on a hilltop and is reached from the parking area via a steep path. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and expect crowds, particularly during pilgrimage seasons and weekends.

The monastery has operated its own brewery for centuries, producing beer using traditional recipes and serving it in the adjoining tavern. This enterprise funds much of the church's operations and helps sustain the site.
