Transparent Factory, Modern car assembly plant in Dresden, Germany
The Transparent Factory is an assembly plant and museum in Dresden that focuses on electric vehicle production and modern mobility themes. The three-story complex uses glass panels across large surfaces to reveal the manufacturing process inside, while the floors are finished in light-colored maple wood.
The building opened in 2002 on a site where Dresden's exhibition palace and the Kugelhaus once stood until the Second World War. After their destruction, the area remained empty for decades until it was chosen for this new facility.
Unlike traditional factories, this building is designed to let people walk through production areas and watch assembly steps closely. It serves as a meeting place where visitors can test electric vehicles themselves and learn about the shift to battery-powered transport.
Tours and exhibitions run from Monday to Saturday, with guides explaining the assembly process and offering details about electric mobility. Those interested in test drives should check availability in advance, as vehicles may not always be on hand.
An outdoor speaker system plays bird calls to help birds recognize the large glass surfaces and avoid collisions. This hidden measure protects wildlife without altering the clean appearance of the facade.
