Glashütten, municipality in Landkreis Bayreuth in Germany
Glashütten is a small municipality in the Bayreuth region, surrounded by forests and hills of the Frankische Schweiz nature park. The settlement features about 50 kilometers of marked walking paths, traditional inns serving Franconian food, and offers guesthouses and private accommodations for visitors.
Glashütten was first mentioned in 1371 and traces its history back more than 650 years. The settlement takes its name from a border guard of that era, and the glass workshops drew on nearby forests for centuries to fuel their furnaces.
The name Glashütten points to a heritage of glassmaking craft that once shaped this settlement. Today, the community keeps traditions alive through numerous local associations and gatherings that reflect how neighbors value connection and shared values.
The settlement sits 12 kilometers from Bayreuth and is easily accessible by local buses. Visitors planning a longer stay will find medical services, pharmacies, and physiotherapists on-site, plus a thermal bath 6 kilometers away with warm pools and sauna facilities.
The village features a demonstration garden, the first of its kind in Upper Franconia, where visitors can experience native plants and water landscapes for relaxation. A Kneipp water therapy installation was added in 2022 to encourage wellness and lingering.
