Kreuzberg

Kreuzberg is a mountain summit in the Rhön region with an elevation of about 928 meters, making it the highest point in the Bavarian section of this upland area. The mountain offers extensive hiking and skiing routes with several ski lifts on the northern side.

The mountain was originally known as Aschberg and held religious meaning in pre-Christian times as the location of a sacred ash tree. Over the centuries, the area transformed into a spiritual center that eventually led to the establishment of the Franciscan monastery.

The Franciscan monastery next to the summit has operated a brewery for generations, where beer is still produced regularly. Visitors can experience the tradition of this place through the presence of monks and their daily work.

The mountain is accessible from the north via hiking routes or ski lifts, with marked trails offering different difficulty levels. Depending on the season and weather, visitors should bring appropriate clothing and footwear.

A broadcasting facility with a tall transmission mast sits atop the summit, shaping the landscape for decades. This infrastructure allows many people to recognize the location from great distances.
