Wittenau

Wittenau is a residential neighborhood in northern Berlin featuring a mix of apartment buildings and single-family homes. The area has several parks, schools, and shopping streets that shape the daily life of those living here.

The neighborhood originated as a settlement called Dalldorf and was renamed in 1905 to distance itself from a psychiatric facility in the area. This change marked its transition into an independent residential community on Berlin's outskirts.

The neighborhood has preserved its character through small shops and cafés where residents gather regularly. These places serve as meeting points where people from the area connect and spend time together.

The area is easily connected to central Berlin via the U8 subway line, with numerous bus routes adding further accessibility. Visitors will find wide streets and several pedestrian zones that make navigating the neighborhood straightforward.

On the grounds of the former French military complex Cité Foch, a vibrant shopping center emerged, now known as Holzhauser Markt. This site demonstrates how post-war spaces in Berlin were repurposed and transformed into modern gathering places.
