Alfsee, Recreational reservoir in Osnabrück district, Germany.
Alfsee is a reservoir in the Osnabrück district of Lower Saxony with shallow water and roughly 7 kilometers of shoreline. The body of water covers an area of about 2.2 square kilometers and maintains a uniform depth of around 2 meters.
Construction started in 1971 to control flooding along the Hase River and was completed a few years later. Recreational facilities around the shore began to appear gradually from 1976 onward.
Families gather along the eastern shore where camping sites meet water sports areas throughout the warmer months. The adjacent theme park draws visitors who combine swimming with rides and attractions during weekends.
The B68 federal road and A1 motorway lie nearby, making car access straightforward from regional towns. Rieste train station offers hourly connections for travelers arriving without a vehicle.
An artificial channel about 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles) long carries water from the Hase River into the lake and regulates large volumes. The system can handle up to 20 million cubic meters of water flow.
