Augstberg, Mountain summit in Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Augstberg is a mountain in the Swabian Jura standing at 849 meters with steep slopes wrapped in dense forests. The terrain offers varied hiking routes through heavily forested landscape.
An observation tower was first built on the summit in 1894 and underwent several reconstructions over the decades. The current concrete tower from the 1960s replaced earlier wooden structures that could not withstand storms.
The name Augstberg comes from Old High German roots tied to the region's pastoral history. Today, the mountain draws hikers and nature enthusiasts to its slopes.
The mountain is accessible via marked hiking trails starting from Steinhilben located north of the summit. Routes are well signposted and suitable for different fitness levels.
On clear days the summit offers views across the entire Jura region extending far into surrounding landscapes. These wide perspectives make it a popular spot for photography and nature watching.
