Boltenhagen, Baltic coastal resort in Nordwestmecklenburg District, Germany
Boltenhagen is a coastal resort in Nordwestmecklenburg District on the Baltic Sea, stretching several kilometers along a sandy shore. The settlement ranges from the flat coastline to gentle rises with views across the bay and surrounding waters.
In the 19th century, the resort became the second town in Germany to introduce bathing machines, offering changing facilities directly on the waterfront. Since then, the community has grown into a spa and bathing destination along the Mecklenburg coast.
The community takes its name from a historic settlement now spread along the Baltic coast. Visitors find traditional wicker beach chairs at several shoreline sections, where holidaymakers sit sheltered from the wind and watch the sea.
The coast is easy to reach through several access routes, and most areas can be explored on foot or by bicycle. Those who arrive early in the morning find more calm at the beach sections than around midday.
Two specialized clinics in the community also offer therapy programs for young patients, including treatments for children and teenagers with their families. Such specialized facilities are relatively rare at German seaside resorts.
