The State Art Gallery in Karlsruhe is housed within three historic buildings arranged around the Botanical Gardens. The collection holds around 800 paintings and sculptures spanning from the Renaissance through modern periods.
The museum was founded in 1846 to house the royal art collection of Grand Duke Leopold of Baden. Architect Heinrich Hübsch designed the buildings, establishing the institution as a major cultural center.
The gallery houses masterworks by German, French, and Dutch artists collected over centuries. Visitors encounter paintings by figures like Dürer and Rembrandt displayed within the historic rooms.

The gallery holds over 200 paintings from the collection of Caroline Louise of Hesse-Darmstadt, gathered between 1759 and 1776. This remarkable assembly reveals the art preferences of an important collector from the 18th century.
