Niederschöneweide

Niederschöneweide is a district in Treptow-Köpenick that stretches along the Spree River, combining industrial buildings with residential neighborhoods. The area spans about 349 hectares at roughly 36 meters elevation, mixing heritage structures with contemporary developments.

The district underwent major change after 1920 when it became part of Greater Berlin, transitioning from rural farmland to an industrial center. This period shaped the infrastructure and urban layout that remains visible today.

The former AEG industrial complex now serves as the home of HTW Berlin's campus, where students move daily between modern lecture halls and heritage buildings. The place has shifted from a production hub to an active education center that shapes the district's character today.

The S3 line connects this district to central Berlin through Niederschöneweide station, making it easily accessible by public transport. The area is quite spread out, so walking between different zones can be time-consuming for visitors.

The Nalepastraße radio house, built in the 1950s, long served as East Germany's main broadcasting hub and still shapes the area's appearance today. The building reveals the architectural style of that era and speaks to an important role in media history.
