Art’otel Dresden, architectural structure
Art'otel Dresden is a hotel in central Dresden featuring modern design with an artistic focus. The four-story building with a distinctive rock-textured facade houses 174 rooms, a restaurant, and lobby spaces decorated with contemporary artworks.
The building was designed by architects Jan Rave, Roosje Rave, and Rolf Rave in the 1990s and opened in the mid-1990s. In 2018, it was renamed to honor artist A. R. Penck, and underwent major renovation in 2019.
The hotel is named after artist A. R. Penck, whose works shape the spaces and reflect contemporary artistic practice. Art pieces by Denis Santachiara fill the lobby and restaurant, creating an environment where guests encounter modern creativity during their stay.
The hotel sits in a lively area with good access to public transportation and major sights like the Zwinger and Frauenkirche. Staff speak multiple languages and can help guests with city recommendations and orientation maps.
A striking feature is the large bronze sculpture of a simplified stick figure by artist A. R. Penck located at the corner of the building. Each of the 174 rooms contains an original Penck artwork, turning the entire hotel into an unexpected art collection.
