Marstall Dresden

Marstall Dresden is a classical building arranged in four wings surrounding a central courtyard, built with refined sandstone details. The structure displays impressive architectural features from the 18th century that reflect the elegance of the period.

The building was constructed between 1745 and 1748 as the royal stables were relocated to a new location. This move occurred so the original stables at Johanneum could be converted into an art gallery.

The building now connects two major theaters and contributes to Dresden's opera culture in a visible way. It shows how a former royal space has been repurposed to serve the city's performing arts today.

The building is located at Am Zwingerteich 2, very close to Zwinger Palace and easily reached from the city center. It is most easily accessed on foot since it sits in Dresden's historic old town.

A grand riding hall from 1795 is hidden inside the complex and extends across a considerable length. The walls of this hall are decorated with detailed reliefs depicting ancient chariot races.
