Hause der Presse, Office building in Dresden, Germany.
The Haus der Presse is a 13-story office building located on Ostra-Allee 20, distinguished by its modern glass facade composed of 4,000 panels. These panels feature typography and graphic designs that give the structure its recognizable appearance in the city.
The building was constructed in 1961 and became the first high-rise in East Germany built using prefabricated components and steel skeleton construction methods. This innovative approach to building transformed construction practices and demonstrated new possibilities for rapid development.
The entrance hall displays bronze relief sculptures created by Walter Howard in 1967, showing the faces of journalists and notable writers. These artworks celebrate the role of the press and the power of written words in society.
The building houses the editorial offices of major newspapers including the Sächsische Zeitung and Dresdner Morgenpost within its office spaces. Visitors can view the exterior architecture and access the entrance hall to see the bronze relief sculptures.
Following the 2002 flood caused by the Weißeritz and Elbe rivers, the building underwent renovations that introduced new facade elements. These design changes were inspired by ideas from media philosopher Vilém Flusser.
