Max-Schmeling-Halle, Multi-purpose sports hall in Prenzlauer Berg, Germany.
Max-Schmeling-Halle is a multi-purpose building in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin, offering seating for up to 8,500 spectators during sports events and 12,000 during concerts. The structure includes multiple levels with stands, movable seating rows, and a large central area that can be reconfigured depending on the event.
The building opened in 1996 and bears the name of German boxing champion Max Schmeling, who competed during the 1930s. It has since formed part of the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark complex in Prenzlauer Berg.
The hall serves as the home ground for volleyball matches of Berlin Recycling Volleys and handball games of Füchse Berlin throughout the season. Teams and crowds gather here regularly, making the venue a steady part of local sports life.
The location lies close to several S-Bahn and U-Bahn lines and is easy to reach from different parts of the city. The facility includes modern sound equipment and adjustable seating arrangements that can be changed depending on the occasion.
The hall borders Mauerpark, which was formerly part of the death strip along the Berlin Wall. Visitors can step directly into this public green space after an event, an area that formed a heavily guarded no-go zone until 1989.
