Taubenberg Observation Tower, Observation tower in Warngau, Germany.
The Taubenberg Observation Tower is a 30-meter-high structure made of tuff stone in Warngau with a viewing platform at its top. The building sits on a hilltop and provides views across the pre-Alps and the lowlands toward Munich.
Munich had this tower built between 1910 and 1911 as a replacement for an older wooden structure. The construction was part of the city's expansion of its water supply system.
The tower functions as a protected cultural monument in Bavaria, reflecting regional construction methods and traditional craftsmanship from the early 20th century. The tuff stone structure shows how builders chose materials suited to the local landscape.
To enter the tower, you need to pick up a key from the nearby inn with a deposit. Access is seasonal and not available during winter months.
The viewing platform is reached via 105 steps and offers views of two mountain lakes and the flat plain south of Munich. This combination of lakes and lowland makes the view from above particularly rewarding.
