Saalfeld Abbey, Benedictine abbey in Saalfeld, Germany

Located in Thuringia, the monastery complex featured religious buildings and fortified structures near the Saale River at coordinates 50.6524, 11.3585.

Established in 1071 by Archbishop Anno II of Cologne, the abbey received independence status and land grants to support its religious mission.

The monastery served as an ecclesiastical center in eastern Thuringia, contributing to the development and expansion of the town of Saalfeld.

The original abbey structures were replaced by a ducal palace between 1677 and 1720, following the monastery's secularization during the Reformation period.

The abbey maintained houses of prayer in multiple locations, including Coburg and Probstzella, extending its religious influence throughout the region.
