Parkeisenbahn Wuhlheide, Miniature railway in Volkspark Wuhlheide, Germany
Parkeisenbahn Wuhlheide is a narrow-gauge railway that runs about 7 kilometers through the green spaces of Wuhlheide park with multiple stations and different route sections. The line operates on a continuous track system with regular stops at several points throughout the park.
The railway was founded in 1956 as a Pioneer Railway during East German times and operated under state structures back then. After reunification, the local community took over and continues to run it.
Young people aged 9 and up run the trains, stations, and signals here under adult guidance, gaining real experience in railway operations. This hands-on learning happens as part of their daily interaction with the park.
The railway runs from March to October with regular weekend services and more frequent runs during school holidays and around Easter and Christmas. Check ahead to confirm times, as schedules vary depending on the season.
The railway uses a collection of older locomotives, including steam engines and diesel units that run through the park regularly. These machines carry around 70,000 passengers each year, making them a significant part of the park experience.
