Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden, Sculpture garden and museum in Wuppertal, Germany.
Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden is a 15-hectare art park in Wuppertal where contemporary works are distributed across forested areas with walking paths and natural formations. The space was designed so that artworks and landscape form a unified whole.
The Cragg Foundation established the park in 2008, converting a former private estate into this public art institution. This transformation of private property into an art destination marked a new approach to artistic exchange in the region.
The site presents work from artists around the world and offers space for exchange about contemporary art. Changing exhibitions allow visitors to experience different artistic positions and techniques within nature.
The park is open Tuesday through Sunday from March to October, with limited weekend-only hours during winter months. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since paths run through forested areas and can become slippery when wet.
The sculptures are perceived in quite different ways through the changing seasons, as natural light and weather alter how each work appears. An installation looks completely different covered in snow than it does on a sunny summer day.
