Kraszewski Museum, Literary museum in Radeberger Vorstadt, Dresden, Germany
The Kraszewski Museum is a literary museum housed in a Swiss-style villa built in 1855 in the Radeberger Vorstadt district. The building contains personal belongings, manuscripts, and documents that document the life and work of Polish writer Józef Ignacy Kraszewski.
The building was home to the Polish writer during his long stay in Dresden between 1863 and 1883, when he fled from the Russian Empire. The museum itself was founded in 1960 and later reimagined after significant changes in its collection.
The museum takes its name from Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, a Polish writer who spent significant years living and working in Dresden. The displays feature his personal study and a collection of Polish books that reflect the literary life of that era.
The museum sits within walking distance of Dresden's center and is accessible to visitors on most days. Tours are offered in German and Polish to give interested visitors a deeper understanding of the exhibition.
Many of the original exhibition pieces were returned to Poland, which significantly changed the collection. The current exhibition, which reopened in 2013, presents a refreshed perspective on the writer's life.
