Alaun park, Public park in Dresden-Neustadt, Germany
Alaun Park is a public green space in the Neustadt district of Dresden, with open lawns, walking paths, and areas set aside for outdoor leisure. Designated grilling spots are spread across the grounds, and there is room to play sports or simply spend time outside.
The name of the park comes from a former alum extraction site that once occupied this part of Neustadt in the 19th century. When industrial activity ended, the land was gradually turned into the open public space it is today.
The park is a natural meeting point for the people of Dresden-Neustadt, especially on warm evenings when groups gather on the grass to grill, play, or simply sit together. The surrounding streets are lined with small bars and cafes that give the whole area a relaxed, social feel.
The park is easy to reach by tram, with a stop very close to the entrance, and it can also be reached on foot from most parts of Neustadt. It tends to be most active in the afternoon and early evening, which is a good time to visit if you want to see the park at its busiest.
The park has no official closing time and remains in use at all hours, long after most city parks have emptied for the night. This makes it one of the few green spaces in Dresden where you are just as likely to find people at midnight as at midday.
