Schloss Aicha vorm Wald, Water castle in Aicha vorm Wald, Germany.
Schloss Aicha vorm Wald is a water castle in Lower Bavaria with a rectangular layout and Renaissance arcades surrounding an inner courtyard. Small outbuildings on the eastern side complete the structure and provide views over the Gaißa valley.
The castle originated in the 14th century within the county of Hals before the von der Pfeil family received it as a fief in 1360. Under their management, it evolved into a notable noble residence with the Renaissance features visible today.
The chapel added to the upper floor in 1776 by Baron von Schrecksleb shows how important faith was to the noble families of that era. Visitors can still see today how religious life and daily living were closely connected within these walls.
The castle stands in Aicha vorm Wald and currently functions as a guesthouse offering overnight stays. Visitors can explore the historic rooms and experience staying within a centuries-old structure, creating a direct connection to the past.
This is the only water castle in the entire Bavarian Forest region, combining medieval water defense techniques with Renaissance architecture. The blend of these two building styles makes it a rare example in southeastern Bavaria.
