KZ-Transport 1945 Memorial, Memorial stone in Nammering-Föhrenweg, Germany
The KZ-Transport 1945 Memorial is a commemorative stone located in Nammering-Föhrenweg marking where a prisoner transport train halted for five days. Inscriptions and display panels at the site document the circumstances and context of what happened in 1945.
In April 1945, a train from Buchenwald concentration camp stopped at Nammering station carrying hundreds of prisoners. During its stay of several days, around 794 people died as a result of the horrific conditions aboard.
The memorial sits along the Danube-Ilz cycling route where visitors on bikes and on foot naturally encounter reminders of the suffering that occurred here. Today it serves as a place where people stop to reflect on this dark moment and acknowledge the lives lost during the transport.
The site stands around 300 meters east of state road 2127 and is relatively easy to access. There is room for quiet reflection here, and its location makes it convenient for visitors exploring the surrounding area.
The memorial follows a 'Track of Remembrance' design that marks the precise location of the former railway station where prisoners perished. This concept connects the physical location to historical reality through visible ground markings that guide visitors through the site.
