Märchenbrunnen, Baroque revival fountain in Friedrichshain, Germany.
Märchenbrunnen is a fountain complex in baroque revival style that spreads over a large area and combines multiple waterfall cascades with numerous smaller fountains. The structure is made from travertine, limestone, sandstone, and wrought iron, and features over one hundred sculptures.
The fountain was built between 1901 and 1913 following a design by architect Ludwig Hoffmann and suffered partial destruction later. After World War II, the work underwent extensive restoration.
The fountain displays a collection of fairy tale characters from German folklore that visitors encounter while walking around it. The figures tell stories like Hansel and Gretel or Snow White, which many people recognize from childhood.
The fountain is located at the southwestern entrance of Volkspark Friedrichshain and can be visited during the warmer months. The site remains open until 10 PM and is easy to reach on foot.
Seven frog figures spout water and directly reference the German fairy tale of the Frog Prince. These details are often overlooked, though they add a special character to the overall composition.
