Bildungslandschaft Altstadt-Nord, Educational complex in Altstadt-Nord, Germany.
The Bildungslandschaft Altstadt-Nord is an educational complex with eight institutions clustered around Klingelputz Park in central Cologne. The buildings range from historic school structures to contemporary learning spaces, together accommodating programs from kindergarten through adult education.
The initiative developed from 2006 onward by bringing together existing educational institutions and was formally established as an association in 2014. This restructuring represented a shift in how Cologne approached educational infrastructure.
The campus combines traditional architecture, including a preserved 1898 school building, with modern learning spaces designed to support different educational methods.
The complex is centrally located near Hansaring and is easily accessible by public transport. The different buildings are spread around the park grounds, making it convenient to move between the various facilities when visiting.
The site was designed by architects Gernot Schulz and André Zweering and won the 2021 Cologne Architecture Prize. The remarkable achievement was seamlessly connecting historical and new building elements into one cohesive space.
