The Bourtanger Moor-Bargerveen Nature Park extends across 217 square kilometers of moorland, featuring sand, heathland, peat bogs, meadows, and grain fields.
The park, established in 2006, encompasses what was once the largest continuous moorland area in Central Europe, transformed by centuries of peat extraction.
Educational centers and museums on both sides of the German-Dutch border present comprehensive information about moorland ecosystems and regional conservation efforts.
The nature park offers flat hiking and cycling paths throughout its territory, with dedicated parking areas and visitor facilities along the marked trails.
The Limitless Moorland project received 6.54 million euros between 2015 and 2019 to strengthen regional economic development while maintaining natural landscapes.
