Polling Abbey

Polling Abbey is a former monastery with late Gothic architectural features located in Polling, Bavaria. The complex displays pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and thick stone walls that showcase the building style of that era.

Founded around 750 as a Benedictine monastery by the noble Huosi family, the abbey was converted into an Augustinian canons community in the 12th century. This shift in religious order shaped the place for centuries that followed.

The late Gothic church within the abbey displays Baroque stucco decoration by Georg Schmuzer and holds pipe organs built by Simon Hayl in the 1600s. These works show how different artistic periods came together in one place and reflect the craft traditions of the region.

The complex was nearly demolished between 1805 and 1807, but Dominican sisters later purchased the surviving structures and converted them into a hospice. This second chapter shows how the medieval buildings gained new purpose after major upheaval.
