Stoa 169, Contemporary art installation in Polling, Germany
Stoa 169 is a contemporary art installation in Polling featuring over 100 columns created by international artists. The columns form a covered walkway along the Ammer River banks and are made from materials including steel, wood, kitchen utensils, and recycled items.
German artist Bernd Zimmer initiated the project in 2019, drawing inspiration from Hindu temple architecture in South India. This architectural tradition shapes the design of the colonnade to this day.
The columns display artistic work using various materials like steel, wood, kitchen utensils, bones, and recycled objects. Each material tells its own story through its form and texture, created by the artists who shaped it.
The installation is freely accessible during the day and requires only a short 10-minute walk from the parking area near Polling. The columns line the riverbank, making the route straightforward to navigate on foot or by bicycle.
A blue column named Cosmos, designed by Bernd Zimmer, stands out among the many pillars. It is regarded by visitors as one of the most striking works in the entire installation.
