Bobrowy Dom, Art Nouveau villa in Lwówek Śląski, Poland

Boberhaus is an Art Nouveau villa in Lwówek Śląski characterized by curved lines, organic forms, and decorative elements across its facade and structure. The building displays flowing shapes and ornamental details that define its overall appearance and architectural character.

Max Zwirner, owner of the Blücher pharmacy in Lwówek Śląski, commissioned Hans Poelzig in 1908 to design a six-storey house with a boys' boarding school; it opened in 1910 as Landhaus Zwirner and was later called Haus Fichteneck. In 1926 the Schlesische Jungmannschaft bought the villa and registered it as Boberhaus at Hirschberger Straße 10. From Easter 1926 it ran adult-education courses and work camps; the Hitlerjugend took over the building in 1936, and in 1944 it became a military hospital.

The house takes its name from the Bober river, rising in the Riesengebirge, and was entered in the land register as Boberhaus at Hirschberger Straße 10. From Easter 1926 the Schlesische Jungmannschaft ran adult-education courses, music education and holiday camps here, with some 40,000 participants passing through under fixed rules. A carved Ernst-Wurche window made in Richard Süßmuth's glass workshop in Penzig showed a crucifix, sunrise rays and sunflowers, the symbol of the Silesian Wandervogel.

The building stood on a slope above the Lwówek Śląski–Jelenia Góra railway line, with the town on one side and the Lwówecka Szwajcaria rock formations on the other. Only remnants of the structure remain at Polna 1, so look for the address rather than a complete villa. The site is reached on foot from the town centre.

The facade features asymmetrical patterns and floral designs that give the building a sense of movement and visual interest. What makes it memorable is how these botanical elements are integrated directly into the stone and structural details rather than applied as decoration.
