Brenninckhof

Brenninckhof is a historic farm complex in Mettingen comprising two residential and agricultural structures positioned on either side of the L796 road toward Laggenbeck. Together these buildings form a traditional rural layout with separate zones for living and farming work.

The main house dates to the 18th century and displays the characteristic two-post timber frame construction typical of Lower German building traditions. A major restoration in 1968 significantly altered the complex, including relocating the main structure to meet modern needs.

The property holds deep roots with the Brenninkmeyer family, whose descendants eventually founded the C&A retail empire across Europe. This connection reveals how a rural family homestead became linked to one of the continent's major commercial ventures.

The complex sits along the L796 road with buildings on both sides, making it clearly visible from the main route toward Laggenbeck. While the property is accessible to view from the roadside, respect the private nature of this working farm.

The southern building features a distinctive hipped roof that extends far down over the later-added outbuildings below. This roofing solution demonstrates regional craft methods used to protect additional work spaces from weather.
