Bolongaropalast, Baroque palace in Höchst, Germany
The Bolongaropalast is a baroque palace in Frankfurt-Höchst with a north facade spanning 117 meters across three wings arranged in a U-shape. A terraced garden on the southern side complements the structure, which displays the symmetrical proportions typical of baroque design.
Brothers Josef and Jakob Bolongaro, tobacco manufacturers, built this palace between 1772 and 1774 after receiving citizenship rights from the Elector of Mainz. The structure marks the rise of prosperous merchants establishing themselves in Höchst during the late 18th century.
The palace features elaborately decorated rooms with mirrors and ceiling frescoes that reflected the wealth of its owners, while the chapel continues to serve as a venue for concerts and literary events today.
The building is currently undergoing extensive restoration work and will later function as a cultural center with exhibition spaces. Visitors should plan their visit after the completion to experience the full range of newly opened galleries and displays.
Napoleon Bonaparte spent his final night on German soil at this palace in November 1813 before Prussian forces took it over as their headquarters. This episode connects the building to major European events of that era.
