Burg Berlichingen, Medieval castle in Berlichingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Burg Berlichingen stands as a well-preserved medieval water castle featuring traditional sandstone construction with defensive walls, towers, and residential quarters that demonstrate typical 13th-century fortress architecture in the Hohenlohe region.

Originally constructed in the 13th century as a fortified residence for the Lords of Berlichingen, the castle became renowned as the birthplace of Götz von Berlichingen around 1480, the famous knight with an iron prosthetic hand who participated in the German Peasants' War.

The castle represents a significant example of medieval noble architecture in Baden-Württemberg and serves as a symbol of regional heritage, embodying the transition from military fortification to aristocratic residence during the late medieval period.

Currently in private ownership, the castle offers limited public access requiring prior arrangement for visits, with the structure located in the village center of Berlichingen and accessible by regional roads from nearby towns in the Hohenlohe district.

The castle's distinctive feature as a water castle with its original moat system and three-story stone keep makes it one of the few remaining examples of this specific fortification type in the Baden-Württemberg region.
