The Brikettfabrik Herrmannschacht features preserved machinery from the 1870s and 1880s, demonstrating the complete process of briquette manufacturing from coal dust.
Built in 1889 to supply the Zeitz sugar factory with affordable fuel, this facility operated until 1959 using a single 12-horsepower steam engine.
The museum exhibits document the regional development of lignite mining in Central Germany through machinery, tools, and industrial equipment collections.
From May to October, the museum offers guided tours at scheduled times, while winter visits require advance registration, with adult admission at 7 euros.
The factory maintains its original technical equipment except for the transmission drive, making it the oldest preserved first-generation briquette factory worldwide.
