Burg Rahden

Burg Rahden is a medieval fortress in Rahden whose remains sit within a park setting. The ruins reveal traces of defensive walls, bastions, and foundation stones that show how such strongholds were structured centuries ago.

The fortress was founded in 1296 and served as the seat of different noble families across several centuries. Ownership changed hands repeatedly due to financial hardships that affected the stronghold's fate.

The name reflects the feudal rulers who controlled the settlement from this fortified position. Visitors can see how the stronghold shaped the rhythm and organization of village life over many generations.

The ruins are located behind the museum grounds within a park and can be viewed at any time. Free parking is available and there are no entrance fees or access restrictions for visitors.

The northern section displays a building with half-timbered upper construction, revealing details of how people built in the medieval period. A stable building once extended along the entire western side, showing how strongholds managed daily life.
