Museumshof Rahden, Open-air museum in Rahden, Germany
The Museumshof Rahden is a collection of historic farm buildings brought together in one location to show what rural life was like. The complex includes a Lower Saxon hall house, a granary, a horse mill, and a bakehouse, each from different periods.
The site was founded between 1962 and 1966 and brought historic buildings from various farmsteads to one location. This was done through a joint effort with local authorities to preserve these important structures from disappearing.
The site shows how people in the region once lived, with tools for flax processing and farm equipment visible inside the buildings. The rooms are arranged as they were during farming times, so visitors can understand how family life and work were connected.
Visitors should know that the site is open during the day for exploration and paths between buildings are walked on foot. It is wise to wear comfortable shoes and prepare for outdoor conditions, since much of the visit is in the open air.
The oldest building on the site is the bakehouse from 1560, which still contains a working stone oven. During special events, a local group bakes traditional cakes there, just as was done hundreds of years before.
