Burg Randeck rises on a hilltop at 514 meters above sea level, featuring stone walls, towers, and a dungeon overlooking the Altmühltal valley.
The castle served as a residence for the Randeck family in the 11th century before becoming a stronghold for the Babon family from Abensberg until the 13th century.
The entrance inscription by Leonhard von Eck states a profound message about divine protection: If God no longer guards the castle, no one will guard it.
The castle opens from March through October between 9:30 AM and 6:00 PM, with admission fees of 2 euros for adults and 1 euro for children.
Visitors can climb the preserved bergfried tower to observe the surrounding valley and explore the medieval dungeon beneath the castle grounds.
