Burg Rosenegg

Burg Rosenegg is a medieval castle ruin perched on a conical hill in the Hegau region, with substantial walls and a square tower still rising from the hilltop. The remains of these structures give visitors a clear sense of how such fortifications once dominated the landscape.

The castle was founded around 1200 by the Lords of Twiel and later passed through the hands of other noble families who ruled the surrounding region. These shifts in ownership reflect the changing balance of power in medieval Hegau.

The castle grounds include multiple hiking trails and natural education paths that demonstrate the local plants and animals native to the Hegau region.

The site is accessible via marked hiking paths that start from the nearby restaurant and parking area at the base of the hill. Bring proper footwear and note that trail conditions vary depending on the season and recent weather.

The tower walls retain their original thickness and display the defensive construction techniques that were typical of medieval German fortifications. This building method offers insights into how such structures were engineered to withstand sieges and attacks.
