Burg Dottendorf

Burg Dottendorf is a former castle in Bonn that dates back to medieval times but was rebuilt in the 1890s. The building features a distinctive tower with a spiral staircase, original medieval cellar spaces, and additional towers that were added during the 19th-century renovation.

The castle was first documented in 1491 as a knight's residence. In the 1890s, industrialist Carl Baunscheidt tore down the original structure and commissioned an entirely new building designed for contemporary living.

The castle displays a blend of medieval roots and 19th-century ambitions in how it was redesigned for the industrial elite. Visitors can read the building's layers to understand how wealthy Bonn families wanted to live at that time.

The castle is located on Villenstrasse at number 6 near Quirinusplatz and currently houses a healthcare facility. Keep in mind that this is an active medical center, so viewing access may be restricted compared to traditional castle tours.

Two towers were deliberately added between 1863 and 1869 to give the castle a more medieval appearance. This shows how architects of that era intentionally mixed historical styles with contemporary construction to create the look they desired.
