Burg Everstein, Medieval castle ruin in Negenborn, Germany
Burg Everstein is a castle ruin spread across two hilltops near Negenborn in the Weserbergland region of Lower Saxony. The remains cover the sites called Grosser Everstein and Kleiner Everstein.
The fortress was first mentioned in 1226 and fell under the control of Duke Heinrich I of Brunswick-Grubenhagen after a siege in 1284.
The remains show how people built fortifications in the Middle Ages. Stone walls and foundations still stand as traces of the construction methods used back then.
Hiking trails lead up to the site, with a popular route starting from the nearby town of Arholzen that offers manageable elevation changes. The terrain has well-marked paths that are accessible for most visitors.
A television transmission antenna from a much later period still stands inside the castle grounds today. Archaeological finds including medieval spurs and crossbow bolts reveal details of daily life in that era.
