Burg Allmut, Medieval castle ruins in Waldshut-Tiengen, Germany
The stone remains of Burg Allmut rest on a rocky ridge 60 meters above the Schlücht river, offering views across the Baden-Württemberg landscape.
First documented in 1245 as Castro meo Almout, the castle changed ownership from the Allmut family to the Counts of Lupfen in 1352.
The castle grounds reflect the medieval architectural methods of southern German fortification systems, with particular emphasis on high-ground defensive positioning.
Visitors need sturdy walking shoes to reach the castle remains, as the path leads through forest terrain and includes elevation changes.
The farm connected to Burg Allmut transformed from a dairy operation into a horse boarding facility that houses over 40 horses in modern facilities.
