Burg Allmut

Burg Allmut is a castle ruin perched on a rocky ridge about 60 meters (200 feet) above the Schlücht river, with views across the Baden-Württemberg landscape. The stone remains display the layout of a medieval fortified structure.

The castle was first documented in 1245 and originally belonged to the Allmut family. In 1352, ownership passed to the Counts of Lupfen.

The location on high ground shows how medieval people chose strong defensive positions to control and protect the valleys below. Walking through the grounds, you can sense why this elevated spot mattered so much for the region.

The path to the ruins goes through forest terrain with elevation changes, so sturdy footwear and some fitness are needed for the visit. Routes can become slippery during wet weather, so plan your trip on drier days.

The farm connected to the castle was transformed from a dairy operation into a horse facility that now houses more than 40 horses in modern stables. This change shows how traditional farming in the region has evolved.
